The Institute promotes transatlantic cooperation in the humanities and related disciplines. Every year it organises numerous academic conferences, but also presents lectures for a wider public. The publications appear in the Cambridge University Press, Berghahn Books and the publishing house Franz Steiner Verlag. The Institute grants scholarships for Ph.D. students and post-doc scholars, and awards prizes for outstanding historical studies on German-American economic history and American theses on German history.
