The German Centre for the History of Art (DFK) / Centre allemand d'histoire de l'art was founded in 1997 with funds from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and has been an affiliate of the Foundation of German Humanities Institutes Abroad since 1 July 2006. The main task of the DFK is to pool German academic studies on France and promote the interests of French humanities studies in an academic analysis of German art and history of art. The DFK research programmes and scholarships are aimed particularly at promoting young academics. At the same time DFK is keen to incorporate other European and Transatlantic countries and academic traditions.
The DFK maintains an intensive academic exchange with history of art university institutes, museums and the heritage preservation trust in its host country and on a basis of international cooperation.
