The German Historical Institute London (GHIL) is a research centre for British and German scholars and students. It promotes research on modern history, in particular on the comparative history of Germany and Great Britain, on the British Empire/Commonwealth and on Anglo-German relations within the context of the international system. It regularly holds international conferences, lectures and postgraduate student's conferences and awards an annual prize for an outstanding Ph.D. thesis and a number of research scholarships to post-graduate students. In addition, the GHIL offers internships to German-speaking students. The Institute works with a number of German and English publishers, e.g. Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press and Oldenbourg: it publishes a Bulletin, conference proceedings and monographs as well as the source publication series British Envoys to Germany.The library with its comprehensive holdings on German history is an important point of contact for British historians.
